SAILING COURSE IN GALLURA

ON THE ISLAND OF THE WIND

Sailing course for beginners, the course will be held in the mornings on one of our boats, a sailing boat of approx. 12 metres. Adequately equipped for your comfort.. ogether with the skipper, from day 1, you will get to grips with the basics and put the basic manoeuvres in practice during navigation. You will learn about what to do and what not to do onboard, sailing terminology, the direction of the wind, chartwork, knots, about the sails and more.
Surrounded by beautiful seascapes, awash with beautiful inlets and white sand and turquoise water. This is show we will spend our mornings whilst afternoons will be spent visiting characteristic places in the countryside of Gallura.

  • You organise the flight to and from Sardinia, to any of the Sardinian airports, Alghero-Cagliari or Olbia.
  • You organise the period of the year for your holidays, the month and the days of the week, excluding June, July and August.

ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 1. Welcome to Sardinia

Sailing Course in GalluraYou will be met by the Staff of Week in Sardinia upon arrival at an airport of your choice. We will take you to the region of Gallura in north eastern Sardinia. We plan several short stops to look at places of interest along the way.
We will stay in one of the characteristic hotels within the Olbia-Tempio province for the duration of the holiday.
Once checked in, we will meet the skipper, who will explain the sailing programme .
We will have a characteristic Sardinian welcome dinner in the evening.

Day 2. Sailing course and the Granite Towers of San Pantaleo

Afternoon: This itinery leaves from the centre of the little hamlet of San Pantaleo, a charcteristic village in Gallura, set amongst the striking granite peaks, woods and fresh water springs.
We will walk through a little forest of holly oaks and across a typical Gallura fold.
The route is panoramic, we will be able to see part of the arcipelago of the Maddalena and, should visibility be good, the island of Corsica, then we will reach the impressive granite peaks of Mount Cugnana.

  • Return to the hotel and dinner in a typical local eatery.

Day 3. Sailing course and Archeological Sites in Gallura

Nuraghe La PrisgionaMorning: 09,00-13,00 Sailing course, (The wind, Names and the direction, Sailing reaches), packed lunch.
Afternoon: We will arrive near Arzachena in about 30 minutes, we will visit the Nuraghe La Prisgiona with a local guide. This is a Nuragic structure featuring a central tower and a further two towers on the outer edges.
We will also visit the “Tomba dei giganti” which dates back to 2500 b.c. which is about 1km away.

 

  • Return to the hotel and dinner in one or the nicest restaurants in the area.

Day 4. Sailing course and excursion to Capo Ceraso

Morning: 09,00-13,00 Sailing course, (Manoeuvres, Luff-up, Bear away, Tacking, Going about), packed lunch.
Afternoon: excursion to Capo Ceraso, a granite promontory in the gulf of Olbia. The coastline is mainly rocky,with the occasional sandy inlet, covered in a variety of Mediterranean scrub such as arbutus, myrtle,holly oak, cork oak and rock-rose which grow abundantly amongst the pinky granite rocks.
We walk down the track through the scrub and then out over the rock which has a brilliant 360° view over the whole of the Marine Area of the island of Tavolara. We will walk back along the coastal paths.

  • Return to the hotel and dinner in a typical Sardinian trattoria.

Day 5. Sailing course and trip to the Dolmen of Luras

Dolmen di LurasMorning: 09,00-13,00 Sailing course, (Close-hauled and Tacking), packed lunch.
Afternoon: We will arrive in the town of Luras, in approx. 50 minutes. Here we will visist the majestic millennial wild olive tree aging between 3000 and 4000 years.
We will also visit the nearby Dolmen, important funerary monuments dating back to the Neolithic period.

 

  • Return to the hotel and dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 6. Sailing course and local gastronomic delights tour in Gallura

MalloreddusMorning: 09,00-13,00 Sailing course, (Down wind and going about, Using the spinnaker sail), packed lunch.
Afternoon: We will spend the afternoon learning all about the local gastronomic delights in a typical farmhouse of the Gallura region, where we will learn how to make some of these goodies the area has to offer.

 

 

 

  • Return to the hotel and a lovely dinner in a characteristic restaurant.

Day 7. Sailing course and visit to the beautiful island of Tavolara

Isola di TavolaraMorning: 09,00-13,00Sailing course, (Man overboard, Coastal navigation), packed lunch.
Afternoon: A visit to the stunning island of Tavolara, which is a beautiful steep sided plateau formed of Mesozoic limestone which sits on a granite base.
The itinerary consists of a leisurely walk on the beach and a visit to the little cemetery and the graves of the Bertoleoni family, the only king of the island.
Next we will walk the footpath through the juniper woods, and see the few remaining centuries-old holm oaks left on the island.
We will get up to a panoramic area which has a lovely view of the gulf of Olbia and stunning cliffs.

 

  • Return to the hotel and a nice farewell dinner with typical Sardinian cuisine.

Giorno 8. We say goodbye

GalluraAt the end of an activity packed week and exciting discoveries, we bid you farewell. We will accompany you to the airport for your return flight, at the times specified by you.
