Bosa is an old hamlet it is one of the most beautiful in Sardinia, and it is extraordinarily interesting for its scenery and wildlife, it features a varied range of the island’s ecosystems , from mountain to coastal and river life together with historical interest and archeological sites.

ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 1. Welcome to Sardinia

giorno-1-584You will be met by the staff of Week in Sardinia upon arrival at an airport of your choice. We will take you to the old hamlet of Bosa, where we will stay in one of the nice selected bijoux hotels. We plan several short stops to look at places of interest along the way.
We will have a welcome dinner in the evening in a characteristic Sardinian restaurant.

Day 2. Malvasia and the traditions of the local Artisan

giorno-2-713Guided tour of the vineyard with an explanation of the history and main features of the Malvasia of Bosa vine. Followed by a wine tasting and brunch which includes a sampling of various typical local foods produced by the winery.
Afternoon visit to the characteristic nearby towns of Tinnùra and Flussio, here we can see the Murals of Sardinia. We will also have a look round the workshops of the local Artisans, famous for their basketry techniques and baskets made from asphodel. A plant found locally in the Mediterranean.

 

 

  • Return to the hotel and a typical Sardinian dinner in one of the nicest restaurants in the hamlet.

Day 3. The flight of the Griffons

grifone-495We will spend the day with a knowledgeable wildlife expert from the area, walking on the rocky cliffs and outcrops near Bosa, the home of the Griffon vultures, the true stars of the countryside around Bosa. It is frequently possible to sight this giant bird of prey with the naked eye. It has a wing span of approximately 3 metres and when it planes, it is most impressive and majestic.

Day 4. The beauty of the hamlet of Bosa

1-bosa-703The Bosa hamlet sits in the hills in the valley of the river Temo, the only navigable river in Sardinia, that runs right through the centre of the town. A beautiful characteristic set of steps in the old town go up the Serravalle hill where the historical Tuscan family ‘Malaspina’ built the Castle of Malaspina containing the chapel of Our Lady of Regnos Altos de Sos.
We will have lunch in a characteristic restaurant in the centre of Bosa.
We will dedicate the afternoon to visiting two fabulous museums: Casa Deriu which is found inside an eighteenth century palace with frescoes, antique furniture and a vast collection of local artsband handcrafts. We will then visit the Civic Museum which has a large historical collection of artefacts also including antique tools used for the tanning of hides.

  • Return to the hotel and typical Sardinian fare for dinner.

Day 5. City of Alghero and Nuragic Palmavera Dolmen

giorno-5-725Ci dirigeremo verso la città di Alghero, attraversando la bellissima costa che collega la città con il borgo di Bosa. Percorreremo la litoranea, apprezzata in tutto il mondo grazie ai suoi emozionanti e unici paesaggi, fino a raggiungere il suggestivo complesso nuragico di Palmavera, particolare nel suo genere.
Successivamente alla visita guidata presso il complesso nuragico, pranzeremo in un caratteristico ristorante della zona.
La nostra giornata proseguirà con la visita della città di Alghero, della quale scopriremo nei particolari le bellezze del centro storico.

Day 6. Excursion to Montiferru

cascata-32850 minutes from the hotel is the “Sos Molinos” waterfall found on the south eastern side of the Montiferru mountains. The waterfall is a conglomerate of several falls from the river Rio Molinos which plunges through a deep gorge and a forest thick with oaks and Mediterranean scrub. At the end of the tour we head for the village of Santu Lussurgiu here we will enjoy luncheon, a variety of local dishes, in a characteristic restaurant.
The afternoon will be dedicated to a visit around the village, which is of urbanistic and architectural interest. It has one of the best historical centres in Sardinia. We will also visit some of the Artisan’s workshops, famous for handmade knives. We will visit the Museum of farming technology found in an ancient manor house, it contains a vast collection of agricultural and pastoral farming utensils together with the old tools used by the coal merchants of Montiferru.

Day 7. Excursion to Cala Punta Foghe

punta-foghe-213We will go through the picturesque town of Tresnuraghes and head towards the country church of San Marco, the nearby old lookout tower Torre di Foghe clings to the cliff. Our excursion starts from here, walking through the lush Mediterranean scrub, we will follow the coastal path down to Cala Punta Foghe, a pretty little bay at the foot of high cliffs. The sea is incredibly clear here, where the Rio Mannu flows into the sea.

Day 8. Our farewell

giorno-8-726At the end of an activity packed week and exciting discoveries, we bid you farewell. We will accompany you to the airport for your return flight, at the times specified by you.
